Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.4 Developer Radio talks about buffed character reworks, story skipping features and more

  • Older playable characters that has long been fallen off of meta will finally get big buffs and improvements in Version 3.4!
  • Story skip options and replayable features coming out in Version 3.4!
  • Scholar Wubbie assistant will help with your builds in Version 3.5!

Honkai: Star Rail, a free-to-play turn-based game from the Chinese game developer HoYoverse, has recently released another Developers Radio. These are aimed at discussing what’s in store for future version updates and how many improvements are being made in the game. Here’s a rundown of the topics covered in the Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.4 Developer Radio Special Edition where the developers explain the player’s most concerned feedback.

Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.4 Developer Radio Special Edition: Highlights

1. Buffs and Improvements for older playable Characters

Starting in Version 3.4, characters like Silver Wolf, Blade, Kafka, and Jingliu are getting what’s called “Enhanced Mode”. No grind, no materials, just instant upgrades. Their abilities, Traces, and even Eidolons are being tweaked to make them even better!

For example, Silver Wolfs Ultimate won’t be single-target anymore, it’s AoE now which is huge! And her Skill will focus on the first character’s Weakness Type in your team, which makes building around her way more strategic and fun.

What’s even better? You’re not stuck with the changes. You can toggle Enhanced Mode on or off anytime, which means you can play however you like. I love that they’re giving us this flexibility!

2. Story Skipping and Summarizing Features

Let’s be real, sometimes I’m in the mood to soak in every single piece of lore, but other times I just want to get back to farming. That’s where Version 3.4’s new story tools come in handy.

  • Dialogue Skip is exactly what it sounds like. You can skip story convos paragraph by paragraph instead of mashing the skip button or being stuck in a scene.
  • Story Summary gives you the important plot points and characters in a neat little recap when you skip. No more wondering what you missed.

These tools work in main missions, companion missions, and even adventure missions. (Just not cutscenes or exploration stuff.) And if you’re exploring Amphoreus, Jarilo-VI, or Herta Space Station, summaries will be available there starting in Version 3.4. The rest will be rolling out in Version 3.6.

3. Full Story Rewind Mode in Version 3.6

In Version 3.6, we’re getting a Story Recap feature. You’ll be able to replay completed Trailblaze Missions, Companion Missions, and more. And it’s not just watching old scenes, you can even choose different dialogue options this time around!

Unfortunately, combat and exploration won’t rewind, but for story lovers (or anyone who missed something important), this is honestly such a win. I’m really looking forward to revisiting key moments, especially the cinematic ones.

4. Scholar Wubbie: Your New Assistant in Version 3.5

Coming in Version 3.5 is Scholar Wubbie: Beta, and I already know I’m going to love this. Wubbie lives on HoYoLAB and is basically a smart little helper that looks at your account and gives you team comps, Relic suggestions, and personalized tips.

I think this will be a huge help for people like me who sometimes get analysis paralysis when it comes to team building. It’s still in beta, so we’ll all get to help make it smarter.

Final Thoughts

While I’m really excited for all these upcoming features, I do think the Story Skip option might stir up some controversy. Don’t get me wrong, it’s super convenient for players who replay missions or just want to fast-forward to gameplay. But I can’t help but worry that skipping too much might lead some players to miss key character development or important lore moments. Honkai: Star Rail has always shined in its storytelling. So while I love the freedom it offers, I really hope newer players still take the time to soak in the story at least once, it’s absolutely worth it.
