In an operator-centric game like Delta Force, every in-game operator plays a crucial role in terms of giving you an upper hand over your opponents. Each skill and gadget of those operators can change the entire gameplay. Delta Force also has several operators from different classes. Out of them, Shepherd is someone on whom you can rely. He is an Engineer-class operator with multiple good skills.

In this article, I am going to discuss the dynamics of the Shepherd operator of Delta Force, and I will also provide you with some must-know tips and tricks, which will make your gameplay a lot smoother with Shepherd.

Delta Force Shepherd Guide

Abilities and Traits

Shepherd is one of the oldest and most technologically advanced operators in Delta Force. His real name is Terry Musa. His main ability is called Sonic Paralysis. This skill set makes Shepherd a very important part of your team. His other secondary abilities also make him a great tactical asset.

Shepherd was the first Engineer class operator to be available in Delta Force. Shepherd is packed with features and abilities. When I tried him for the first time, I was amazed by his tactical prowess and effectiveness.

He is an engineer who works as the orchestrator of the team, like Uluru. You can also learn about the other operators from our Delta Force Operator Tier List. If you are confused about the most suitable weapons for them, then do not forget to check out the Loadout guide.

We can use his abilities by clicking the fire button or by pressing the dedicated skill-switch. His passive skill also complements his main skill in a pretty good manner. Technically, he has four special abilities. These make him a useful operator on the battlefield.

Shepherd’s Sonic Defense trait allows him to use the hand device to generate anti-phase sound waves to reduce damage from blast waves. That is why he stands tall against launcher explosions and grenade blasts.

Active Ability: Sonic Paralysis

The active ability, which is also known as the main ability, is Sonic Paralysis. It is the tactical gear of Shepherd. When you use it, Shepherd deploys a Sonic Drone to suppress enemies within a 30m radius, reducing their fire rate.

It will destroy enemy sonic devices and interfere with other reconnaissance devices. It has two usabilities. If you only press the button, it deploys a UAV forward and triggers a powerful paralysis 1 time. If you hold the button, it deploys a UAV in place and triggers paralysis 4 times in almost 16 seconds.

The drone utilizes a sonic generator equipped to the tail of the drone that also emits anti-phase sound waves to suppress enemies and reduce the rate of fire of hostile weapons. Shepherd can control both the drone and the trap from the full-display control panel fitted to his arm.

Gadgets and Weapons

Talking about explosions, let me introduce the big boy, the GE2 Frag Grenade. It is a very effective gadget for Shepherd. As you can guess from the name, it is a defensive Frag Grenade that can effectively damage ballistic vests irrespective of their level and can deliver big blows to the exposed limbs.

It has two modes; you can press the fire button to perform a quick throw. You can also hold it to prime, then release to throw the perfectly cooked grenade. Another great and useful gadget of Shepherd is the Sonic Trap. It is very useful to defend a particular area from enemies. I find this gadget the most useful out of all the available ones. It deploys a Sonic Trap that sticks to hard surfaces.

The Sonic Trap triggers automatically when enemy units come within 4 meters, damaging and slowing enemies in a larger area. It sets the path for your team’s Assault class operators to strike hard at those weakened enemies. Remember that if you go away from it and cross the 59-meter barrier, it can automatically destroy itself.

The trap cannot damage the same target consecutively. The trap is fitted with a sonar sensor that emits sonic signals to detect nearby enemy movement. When it detects an enemy within its range, the trap explodes, dealing damage, suppressing enemies, and giving an alert signal. Also, if it detects an explosion in its vicinity, it outputs inverted-phase sonic waves to mitigate the effect of the blast.

Delta Force Shepherd Gameplay Tips

Mastering the Sonic Paralysis

  • Sonic Trap allows Shepherd to defend an area well: If you place the Sonic Trap near any choke point or sensitive area, it can effectively keep enemies away for a limited period before reinforcements arrive. It can also work like a motion detector, which will alert Shepherd when a team enters its vicinity.
  • The Sonic Paralysis drones keep your team safe from explosions: Since its main objective is nullifying the grenades and preventing other operators from using gadgets or using other active abilities, you can expect that your team will remain safe from heavy explosions while this ability is active.

Mistakes to Avoid with Shepherd

  • Do not use Shepherd as a Fragger: Remember that Shepherd is not an aggressive Entry Fragger like other assault class operators. He thrives in holding territory or disrupting enemies. If you use him on the frontline, it may cause a massive imbalance.
  • Do not place Sonic Traps in open areas: Sonic Traps can play a crucial role in matches as they are low-risk, high-reward items. Try to use those wisely and place them only in choke points and hard angles. Otherwise, your enemies won’t have much trouble deactivating those traps.

Best Team Compositions with Shepherd

To maximize Shepherd’s effectiveness on the battlefield, consider the following team compositions:

  • Toxik: Toxik goes pretty well with Shepherd as her active healing abilities help Shepherd to constantly halt the enemies’ progressions abruptly. The frontliners also receive the much-needed extra advantage, and they attack fearlessly. When Toxik’s abilities are paired with Shepherd’s sonic area control, your whole team becomes a coordinated and powerful force to reckon with.
  • Stinger: Stinger complements Shepherd by maintaining overall team health and covering while Shepherd locks down choke points with his sonic gadgets. This duo creates a great frontline with decent sustainability.

Final Thoughts

Shepherd is already a great and pretty much complete operator in Delta Force. His unique skill set and his multiple Sonic abilities make him a standout operator. Taking him in your team will boost you tactically and give you a lot of advantages on the battlefield. Pair him with suitable operators and give him his favorite AT4 Launcher, and just enjoy the show.
