Pokémon Sleep has officially made it into the Guinness World Records as the most downloaded gamified sleep app in the world. In just its 2nd year, it has surpassed 28 million downloads and recorded over 1 billion sleep sessions, a huge leap from the 10 million downloads it crossed in August 2023.

If you’re unaware, Pokémon Sleep is a mobile app that turns your sleep into a fun and rewarding experience. By placing your smartphones near your pillows before going to bed, this app tracks and analyze your sleep patterns.

Based on your sleep type and quality, different Pokémon appear with unique, collectible sleep poses. Launched in 2023, this unique blend of health and entertainment has now officially received a Guinness World Record during the FUN SLEEP FEST: Wake Up with Excitement event, held in Tokyo.
Guinness officials were present to award the certificate for “most downloaded gameified sleep app” to The Pokémon Company, and Takato Utsunomiya, the COO of the company, accepted the certificate and thanked everyone for their continuous support.

He also promised, “We will continue striving to turn sleep into an enjoyable part of people’s lives.” It’s impressive to note that as of May 15, the app has tracked over 1 billion sleep sessions, which also shows just how widely it is used and loved by fans. Even, I’m planning to use it now.

The 2nd anniversary celebration in Tokyo featured several guests, like Hayato Sano from M!LK, actress Mirai Shida, and comedian Hiccorohee, who took part in themed sleep challenges which showcased the app’s interactive features. Ryogo Matsumaru also returned as a judge for Three Sleep Challenges, which was a nice touch.
