Netflix has officially greenlit a live-action adaptation of the iconic Assassin’s Creed franchise. This also marks the first project under its multi-title partnership with Ubisoft, which was originally announced in 2020. This upcoming series aims to reimagine the beloved game’s universe for a global audience.

The Assassin’s Creed live-action series has been greenlit, with development led by Emmy-nominated writers Roberto Patino (DMZ, Westworld, Sons of Anarchy) and David Wiener (Halo, Homecoming, The Killing), who will serve as creators, showrunners, and executive producers for this one.
This series will follow a centuries-long secret war between two secret factions, with one seeking to control humanity while the other fights to preserve free will. Moreover, characters will have pivotal historical events as you battle to shape humanity’s destiny. I’m already liking the concept.
As someone who grew up exploring the storyline as Ezio and unveiling the ancient secrets, this feels like a dream come true for me. The IP is more than just about stealth, combat, and hidden blades. And if this series delivers on the promise, it can be something very special for us fans.
Showrunners promise a powerful narrative beyond the action of the IP
Patino and Weiner, who are longtime fans of the series like me, spoke about the emotional themes at the heart of the game. They aim to explore identity, faith, and human connection. “Beneath the scope, the spectacle, the parkour and the thrills is a baseline for the most essential kind of human story.”
Peter Friedlander, Netflix’s VP of Scripted Series, shared that the adaptation has been years in the making, while praising the creative team. He added that the series is designed to “honors the legacy of the Assassin’s Creed franchise,” while also evolving the experience, which also has me excited.
I’m really looking forward to this one, and I hope they don’t mess it up. With experienced names like Gerard Guillemot and Austin Dill from Ubisoft involved, my expectations are very high. I actually have a good feeling about this one and really hope it doesn’t disappoint with meaningless woke content.
