The June 2025 Update in Clash of Clans saw the arrival of Crafted Defenses. Available at the ultimate Town Hall 17 currently, this adds a new defensive layer to the base, and comes in different types. Since the number will increase, here’s a complete guide that lists the defenses, how they work, and more.
What are Crafted Defenses in Clash of Clans
Crafted Defenses are a special building that lets you choose how it works in your Home Village. It will be unlocked at Town Hall 17. These defenses are built through the Crafting Station, a free 3×3 building with no build time.
Once placed, you can instantly switch between three unique defense types at any time using the Cycle Defense button. Each Crafted Defense can be customized by upgrading individual modules such as hitpoints, damage per shot, attack cooldown, and other stats.

The upgrade system is modular, as each stat starts at level 1 and can go up to level 10. The overall level of a Crafted Defense is the sum of its upgraded modules, maxing out at level 30. During an ongoing Crafting Phase, lasting around three months, only one set of defenses is available.
Once the phase ends, the current defenses are removed and replaced with new ones, starting from level 1 again. You can upgrade one module per defense at a time, and it’s possible to upgrade modules of all three defenses simultaneously if you have enough builders.
List of Crafted Defenses in Clash of Clans
Currently, there are three crafted defenses in the game. Hook Tower, Flame Spinner, and Crusher Mortar.
1. Hook Tower

Hook Tower is a single-target defense that pulls in both air and ground units, excluding Siege Machines, from a long range of 4 to 15 tiles and stuns them for up to 3.6 seconds at max level. It deals no damage itself but is meant to draw troops into high-damage zones.
2. Flame Spinner

From the design itself, you can see Flame Spinner as a flamethrower-style defense that deals continuous splash damage with a burst of 28 shots per cycle and a range of 8 tiles. It targets both air and ground units. While its DPS looks high on paper, the actual impact comes from the burst fire and the total number of shots.
3. Crusher Mortar

Functions like a beefed-up mortar that launches spiked shells, which bounce up to three times, dealing splash damage along a straight path. It has a 2.5 to 9 tile range, with a splash radius that even affects units inside its dead zone. The best upgrade choices are area damage and damage per second to increase their crowd-control effectiveness.
