- Project Witches has been officially renamed Project Spirits.
- It’s a subculture cross-platform game coming to PC and mobile.
- The game is themed around Eastern Fantasy and targets a 2027 global release.
SHIFT UP, the studio behind Stellar Blade and Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, has officially unveiled its next major project, Project Spirits. The studio has described it as a “subculture” game that embraces the unique flavour of “Eastern Fantasy“, with a global release planned for 2027.
With the first logo and artwork for Project Spirits revealed, SHIFT UP is actively hiring
Previously known as Project Witches, this new game is being built as a large-scale cross-platform title for both PC and mobile. Project Spirits is being developed using Unreal Engine 5 and is set to continue SHIFT UP’s tradition of high-quality visuals and immersive storytelling.
As per the details available, it’s a new original IP, joining the ranks of the Tencent–backed studio’s growing lineup. If you remember, last year in April, SHIFT UP had opened for the recruitments for their AAA urban sci-fi action RPG for Mobile, PC, and Consoles, where the name was not revealed back then.
This game is expected to mix stylish action and fantasy aesthetics with a strong narrative and anime-inspired visuals. The official artwork and logo have been revealed, giving you a first look at the game’s art style. The game description directly gives you the vibe of the Genshin Impact competition.

However, if you ask me, this isn’t a very exact representation of how things might look, since the use of AI-generated art is visible. I do see similarities in character design with the now-discontinued Destiny Child, although this is still just a cover visual. SHIFT UP also confirmed that a Stellar Blade sequel is in the works, however, that is not coming to our mobile screens.
SHIFT UP is now recruiting for the project, hiring for roles such as project manager, character artists, level designers, screenwriters, and more. Given the release is still a couple of years away, we need to see how this looks, but given SHIFT UP’s work, this could be another big hit.
