Rovio Entertainment has announced the soft launch of their new card battler, Sonic Blitz, on both Android and iOS in the Philippines. Co-developed with SEGA, it comes after SEGA acquired Rovio, best known for the Angry Birds franchise, for €706m in 2023. There’s no word yet on a global launch.

Sonic Blitz takes a bold spin on the CCG genre, offering quick three-minute matches packed with strategy and beloved Sonic characters. You can open a real booster pack daily, build a team of 12 cards, and dive into 1v1 battles. It is different from Pokémon TCG Pocket and DIGIMON ALYSION.
I didn’t expect a Sonic title to go the CCG route, but the game pulls it off with a fast-paced twist on the genre and detailed 3D models. That said, I’m excited to build teams with my favorite characters like Knuckles, Super Sonic, Amy, and more, each bringing their own playstyle and special moves.
Your cards spring to life with DASH as characters leap out to attack or finish the fight
Moreover, the game’s easy to get into, but there’s plenty of depth thanks to various game-changing rules. To win in this game, you’ve to predict your opponent’s next move and time your DASH ability just right. When you pull it off, your cards come to life as the characters leap into battle or deal the last blow.
This new Sonic the Hedgehog mobile title shows promise, with iconic locations like Green Hill, Sky Sanctuary, among others, Ring Journey, Dash mechanic, PvP battles, iconic characters, valuable rewards, and more. If you’re a fan of Sonic, you can also look forward to Sonic Rumble from SEGA.
Sonic Blitz is now available in soft launch on both Android and iOS in the Philippines. You can now download the game from the Google Play Store or App Store. There’s currently no information regarding a global launch. Stay tuned for more updates!
