Zynga is shifting its attention toward modern messaging platforms like Discord and Telegram as it steps back from its earlier push into Web3. The American video game developer has decided to move away from blockchain to other ideas.
Zynga aims to explore where future audiences spend time beyond mobile app stores
After selling off its Web3 project Sugartown last year to D20, the mobile gaming giant is now evaluating where future audiences are spending their time, and the traditional app stores may not be the only place.

In a recent interview with The Game Business, Zynga CEO Frank Gibeau explained why the company decided to move away from blockchain-based experiences. “We felt that we weren’t able to build something significant there,” Gibeau said. “The technology is very interesting, but it’s a very complex and undeveloped market, let’s just say legally.”
Instead, Zynga is now exploring new ways to meet players where they hang out the most, which are across platforms that are centres of daily chat and entertainment. Well, they have taken a step for the same with the Discord-exclusive launch of Tiny Royale: ZOMBIES! last month.
While the company hasn’t officially announced other new projects coming to Discord or Telegram, Gibeau hinted that something might be on the horizon for Zynga.
“We haven’t announced anything, but we’re always looking for an audience. And, if you look at TikTok, the emergence of Discord, the emergence of Telegram, there’s a lot of new platforms out there that people are spending time on,” Gibeau concluded.

As messaging apps keep growing and adding more features, they could become a great place for fun, easy-to-play social games, something Zynga is really good at. Again, nothing is announced yet, but this can be an exciting wait.
