Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is an open-world RPG from Netmarble. The game brings back memories of Westeros by featuring remarkable elements like characters, places, etc. Being a hardcore GOT fan, I had tried the game when it was in Closed Beta, and liked the game. Now with the game launching globally, here’s my Game of Thrones: Kingsroad beginners guide to ensure that you can sit on the Iron Throne with ease!
The very first time you step into the game, it will take you to the barren lands of the far north, close to the wall. You will start as the last remaining heir of House Tyre, though a Snow. After getting trained under House Umber, you became a mercenary. As an urgent call arrived, you set your journey back to your house. Understanding the Character classes
The game has introduced three characters so far. Your gameplay and overall experience will vary based on the character that you choose to begin with. Here’s an overview of the characters:
- Sellsword: This Versatile character is capable of performing anything, but not intensively. This character is skilled in both melee and ranged attacks. According to your needs, you can use this one. So, selecting it isn’t a bad choice at all.

- Knight: Knight is a tank and a defender at the same time. You will probably prefer this one to play with as it has skills and abilities that are going to help you grow as a beginner. It can take a lot of damage and can control the enemy with crowd control mode.
- Assassin: Assassin is more like a DPS-oriented class. Fast attacks, sword skills, and sneaking abilities will give you an extra advantage while fighting. If you don’t want to catch the attention of a large group and you like less chaos, this one is better than the other two.
Skills and Trait Tree
As you will fight against the enemies and ferocious beasts, you won’t survive only by swinging swords. You will need skills to increase your assault, endurance, and rampage. You will see several skills on the page. Unlocking them will allow you to win the fights easily.

On the other hand, the trait tree is a system that amplifies the powerful effects of your character. It is like completing a puzzle, but you will gather piece by pieces of it to give your character top-notch abilities. It has three sub-levels: Attack, Defense, and Support. You will be spending points to increase attack power, strike rates, etc.
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad Beginners Guide: Tips and Tricks
When it comes to improving your levels in the early stage and continuing to progress at the same rate, you must master some tips and tricks. After playing for a long time, here’s a beginner-friendly guide for the players. You will understand the basic game elements and use the tips to enjoy the game more.
1. Equipment is entirely character-specific
When you enter your equipment section, you will see two types of them on both your right and left sides. The right ones are for decorating you, meaning that they’re jewelry, and the ones on the left are fighting equipment, aka your arms.

Now, each character, based on their roles, comes with different weapons. For example, the Greatsword is only Knight Exclusive. On the other hand, Crude Daggers are only made for Assassins.
The point here is that even if you acquire rare materials to craft a rare weapon, that might not be your character’s exclusive. So, keep track of what you collect and for which weapon you collect. Based on your need, collect the materials to craft your desired weapon.
2. Auto-battle only when you need it
The game has an auto-battle system, but you should use it on preliminary fights, like when there’s no opponent to tease you. But in times when the reward is high, but it needs to be performed well and requires great skills to receive it, do not mess up using the auto-battle system.

If you have an effective strategy that can put more control in your gameplay, you should go for it. To be in the driving seat is always fun!
3. Side quests are full of rewards if you want
Games do provide side quests mainly to provide you with rewards, so you can grow effectively. In a main quest, you will need to focus on that, but sometimes you will need extra information so that you know exactly what to do to pass a barrier promptly. This is where side quests come into play.
Not only will it provide you with hidden information, but it will also allow you to get several rare resources, materials, etc. for upgrading your weapons, skills, and else. The importance of side quests, thus, has equal value to talking to NPCs. These are your carriers to be effective in each phase of the game.
4. Keep exploring the vast open map
In an open-world game, what is more important than exploring? Understand the map to know enemy outposts, beast locations, historic places, etc. Besides, the map provides loot locations so you will know where to go first to gather important items.

The map is your in-game co-operative system, just like any other game. The more information you can get from it will help you the most. So, even if there’s nothing about your mission or quests, just enjoy the scenery and places in-game.
5. Boost your momentum
One of the key things in the game to increase your level early is by boosting your momentum. When you craft jewelry or any equipment, it increases your momentum, which is a combat power indicator of your character. Some fights with a horde of enemies or beasts require high momentum to engage.
But you will want to engage with higher momentum so that you win those actions without much hassle. As it is connected to crafting or upgrading higher-level materials or equipment, be sure you correctly do both.
6. Other Miscellaneous Tips
- Increase the inventory during the early game. Otherwise, you will face a huge limitation when upgrading or crafting something.
- NPC conversations are important. They may look like unfruitful and time-consuming efforts, but they will guide you and provide clues, so you surely don’t want to skip the words.
- Master the dodging skill as it will help you avoid damage. In hard fights against powerful enemies, you will know the importance.
- Try to unlock your ride in the early game. Otherwise, you will only get a slow experience. To secure faster travel in the vast map, you will need a ride.
- Save your resources to level up or craft high-rarity gears. It’s better to have a legendary gear than a basic one.
- Joining an alliance will let you play alliance missions. Completing these missions will get you special tokens that you will use to buy necessary items.

Our known and loved Westeros has once again been brought back to life. You will not only feel the tension in the power dynamics, but also explore the vast and ever-changing nature of the environment.
