HoYoverse is gearing up to release Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.4 update, titled For the Sun is Set to Die, on July 2nd, 2025. This update brings an abundance of new limited-time events, the much-awaited Fate/stay night collab, along with thrilling story expansions in Amphoreus and Penacony, as well as introducing powerful and highly anticipated playable 5-star characters such as Phainon, Saber, and Archer
Main Story Progression: A Turning Point in Amphoreus
We’re diving straight back into the chaos, picking up after the Chrysos Heirs’ desperate effort to return the final Coreflame to the Vortex of Genesis. Phainon, who’s been a quiet force of support until now, is finally stepping into the spotlight. This isn’t just another chapter; this is the moment the Trailblazer’s choices could rewrite the fate of the galaxy.
We’ll be exploring Aedes Elysiae in-depth, from Phainon’s roots and rise through the Flame-Chase, to the heavy expectations on his shoulders. I’ve been waiting for this story payoff forever, and I already know the lore is going to hit hard.
New Playable Characters in HSR Version 3.4
Phainon
The star of the update, Phainon, is a 5-Star Physical Destruction character, and he’s as flashy as he is functional. His kit revolves around gathering Coreflames to transform mid-combat, creating a Territory that boosts his damage while removing allies temporarily (don’t worry, their buffs still stay).
He’s got this solo-carry warrior vibe, and when transformed, channels powers from Origination, Calamity, and the Foundation Titans. His Technique also literally wipes out normal enemies on the field without starting combat. Yup, exploration just got way smoother.
Saber (Fate/stay night Collab)
Yes, you read that right, Saber is finally stepping into the Astral Express universe as part of the Fate/stay night crossover! She’s a 5-Star Wind unit on the Path of Destruction, and her Ultimate, Excalibur, deals AoE Wind DMG and powers up her basic attacks.
She builds Core Resonance during battle and can chain extra actions and energy regeneration like a queen. I’ve already made room for her in my team!
Archer (Free Collab Unit)
Even better, Archer is a free 5-Star you can claim starting July 11th, 2025! He’s a Quantum Hunt character that thrives on single-target damage with his repeatable Skill spam in the Circuit Connection state.
And yes, he unleashes Unlimited Blade Works as his Ultimate. He’s got follow-ups, Skill Point regen, and one of the most stylish kits I’ve ever seen. A freebie that’s strong? We love to see it.
Rerun Banners and Character Enhancements

But the real surprise? Silver Wolf, Kafka, Jingliu, and Blade are all getting meaningful enhancements, from Eidolon buffs to combat reworks. On top of that, we’ll finally be able to toggle between classic and enhanced battle modes, which means more flexibility in how we build and play our faves.
Holy Grail War: Trailblazing Meets Fate
Starting July 11th, 2025, the crossover event “Sweet Dreams and the Holy Grail War” kicks off in Penacony, and it’s straight-up surreal. Trailblazer gets pulled into a magical battle royale where characters summon historical spirits as Servants, sound familiar?
You’ll team up (or go against) familiar faces like Aventurine, Robin, and Boothill, all while navigating the chaos of this dreamlike war. Between lore teases and combat fanservice, I’m ready for this madness. A familiar Fate character shows up as well. Stay tuned!
Now you can skip dialogues, coming as a QOL improvement
This is the update that keeps on giving; the long-awaited skip dialogue feature is finally here. If you’re replaying story content or just want to speed through event filler, it’s a literal blessing. Plus, the fan-favorite Origami Bird minigame is making a return, bringing some much-needed levity to an otherwise intense patch.
